The power of tomorrow

Statkraft has also previously cooperated with Her Majesty on art projects with great success, lastly in connection with the Edvard Munch’s 150th anniversary in Paris and London. On 8 October, the occasion was the Statkraft’s anniversary seminar and reception for guests in London.

For Statkraft and the foundation The Queen Sonja Print Award it was a happy coincidence that the first Kjell Nupen Memorial Grant and Statkraft’s anniversary could be combined. The foundation wished to extend the boundaries of its efforts to promote contemporary art not only to the Nordic countries but to the international art scene as well.

For Statkraft the UK is a very important market and a natural place for a 120-year anniversary celebration. It is in the UK a large proportion of Statkraft’s investments are being made, especially within offshore wind outside the British east coast. Statkraft is also a large player onshore with wind projects, hydropower and power purchase agreements.

The first recipient of the Kjell Nupen Memorial Grant was the Danish artist Adam Saks, whom received the award from Her Majesty at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). The award was introduced in memory of the late Kjell Nupen to inspire ambitious artists and encourage the art of printmaking. A selection of art works from the foundation’s initiators, Her Majesty Queen Sonja, Kjell Nupen and Ørnulf Opdahl, was exhibited at RIBA alongside works from the memorial grant winner Adam Saks.
