Climate shapers gather at Vang

All guests were personally invited by CEO Christian Rynning-Tønnesen to join high-level conversations on how science, politics and business can take a collaborative approach to tackle climate change. HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit was invited to present the World Economic Forum's Global Shapers community, which she is actively engaged in.

This is the second time that high-impact voices in the global climate discussion are gathered for Statkraft’s one-day seminar Climate Roundtable.

The role of business

This year’s Climate Roundtable is addressing key elements driving the economic growth and businesses’ role in the green shift.

"The role of business is the real key when moving towards a low carbon economy. But we need to shift perception from climate mitigation as being costly, to seeing the growth possibilities that the green shift actually represent," says Christian Rynning-Tønnesen.

New questions, new ideas

The event sparked lively discussions on how to solve climate change.

"We have raised many questions, such as how to combine the power of the top down and bottom up methods to work together. At the same time, several new ideas have come up and we have created new and lasting relationships between scientists, NGO representatives, and business executives," says Rynning-Tønnesen.

Among the guests at Climate Roundtable 2014 are HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, director for Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, George H. Atkinson, executive director for Institute on Science for Global Policies and Dr. Marcus Tacke, CEO in Siemens’ Wind Power and Renewables division. The seminar also gathers representatives from among others WWF, University of Oxford, World Economic Forum, New Climate Economy, The Research Council of Norway, Statnett, Norfund, DNV GL, UMEO, Grieg Star Group, Xyntéo and CICERO.
